Shalom and Hi there-This is Cantor Eva and Rabbi Steve:

There are so many of you out there and this is a whole new world. Along with, our show, “In The Moment,” we want to begin to communicate and share who we are, what we value and our vision of Jewish life in the 21st C.  However, being a member of the boomer generation, means that our familiarity, with today’s way of communicating – cable-television, Facebook, twitter, blogging and G-d knows whatever else is about to emerge, is not only minimal but terrifying. I don’t know about the rest of you 45+, it is awesome and little frightening to get started. So here it is, speaking to those of you out in cyber-space, wondering if any of you have the same fears and/or lack of comfort with the world of technology. We grew up with typewriters, steno-machines, mimeograph machines, answering machines and finally mastered the new world of cell phones.

Eva - My  Bachelors in Psych taught me about the psyche, the human condition and nonverbal communication then I went  on to graduate school to study about communication, in a group setting and in interpersonal moments, but talking to unknown recipients, that is a a new dimension.

Steve - Like Eva, my education, as Rabbi and Psychologist of forty eight years of working with people, face to face, leaves me a little unsure of how to relate to those who I can’t see and don’t know. I’m probably one of the only people who failed typing in the 9th grade due to a high level of frustration caused by undiagnosed learning disabilities. Ever since that disastrous and traumatic experience I have avoided typing like the proverbial plague. Low and behold, the electronic revolution is all based on typing. So, in addition to the usual reasons for being technologically challenged, I have a double barreled approach-avoidance to the whole thing. I have traditionally relied upon my wife and my cantor, Eva (who types 90 words a minute) to do any typing I have required, while I rely on my talent for speaking endless verbiage. I have a corps of typists who can take dictation, and my son Jesse is a computer technology wiz. Therefore, up until now, I have been able to avoid my two greatest fears. Now I have no choice, but to enter into the crossing of the Sea of Reeds from the enslavement of my fear of technology and typing to the spiritual liberation of communicating through cyber-space.

We will now take the leap, face our fears and communicate with all of you out there, whoever you are, wherever you are, whenever you and whatever you are.  So we close our eyes, type away and imagine all of you and sitting together. Our show is a dialogue, it’s about all that we confront and deal with as we go through the ‘tween’ years – between aging parents and adult children as well as grandchildren. It’s for all of you. We hope you’ll not only watch, but talk back, write and let us know what’s on your mind.

It’s good to know there is some body listening!
